This is an octagonal Wa Style Handle made for Japanese style kitchen 

 African Blackwood  is a true rosewood and is considered the original ebony, African Blackwood was imported and used in Ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. African blackwood is considered to be among the hardest and densest of woods in the world. 

Suited for a 210 mm  gyuto or other Japanese knife.
